It all started nearly 30 years ago. It was the never failing combination of a few
enterprising Bengalis, the time of the year, and the nostalgia - of the blue skies
of October, the sound of "Dhak" filling the minds and hearts, the memory
of the air heavy with the smell of incense and "prasad", faces of friends
and family brimming with joy. It were as if the whole world was full of simple pleasures.
The combination made it happen. The few enterprising Bengalis did what Bengalis
have always done. They organized the first Durga pujo on Minneapolis soil. And from
there to forming the Bengali Association of Minnesota was a short and inevitable
step. The organization had its challenges. Financial resources were hard to come
by initially. But the community stuck to the task. And after all these years as
the community has grown in strength, so has the Association.
